The Cultural Alchemist

Jeremy Healy - the man who connected the worlds that changed modern culture

For over four decades, Jeremy Healy has occupied a place unlike anyone else in British popular culture. He didn't simply witness the birth of punk, New Romanticism, acid house, Ibiza, the superclub era and the globalisation of fashion. He was at the centre of it all. He was one of the few people connecting music, nightlife, style and celebrity long before anyone thought those worlds belonged together.

Born in south-east London to Irish parents and raised among the pubs, reggae sound systems and working-class communities of Peckham, Jeremy's journey is one of instinct, reinvention and extraordinary cultural timing.

As a teenager he gravitated towards the Sex Pistols before becoming part of Steve Strange's legendary Blitz Club, where the New Romantic movement was born. In the early 1980s he found success with Haysi Fantayzee, one of Britain's most original and visually influential pop groups, before leaving pop stardom behind to immerse himself in London's rapidly evolving club scene.

What pulled him under was London's club underground. Inspired by New York's Danceteria, he sold the guitar, bought a pair of turntables and started the legendary Circus - the night everyone queued round the block for. When acid house exploded during Britain's Second Summer of Love, Jeremy was at its heart. Through his club nights, his work with Boy George and More Protein Records, and the era-defining anthem “Everything Starts With An E,” he helped shape the emergence of modern club culture and the transformation of the DJ from nightclub entertainer into international superstar.

Running alongside all of it was a second career few insiders ever manage. A chance night at John Galliano's degree show led to a creative partnership spanning decades. As musical director for Galliano, Dior, Maison Margiela, Victoria's Secret and much of the luxury world, he became the creative force responsible for the soundtracks to some of the most iconic fashion shows ever staged.

Few people have experienced both the rise of global dance music and the transformation of fashion into worldwide entertainment from the inside. Jeremy is an extraordinary talent and a legendary nightlife national treasure. He has worked with everyone from Beyoncé to Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Usher and Sting. His career has influenced some of the defining cultural moments of the last forty years.
